Whether you’re a full time parent, part time bus driver, or retired school teacher, chances are you have plenty of paper you need to dispose of. If you are in need of a new shredder, check out Office Monsters guide to buying the best shredder. In the meantime however, I have found a few facts you probably didn’t know about shredding.

1. The first shredder fact

The first paper shredder was invented and patented in 1909 by Abbot Augusts Lowe, but was forgotten because poor Mr Lowe died before he could produce more than his first functional prototype.

2. The stolen identity fact

Apparently there’s a one-in-33 chance you’ll have your identity stolen in the next year. One of the best ways to prevent this is to, as you might expect, shred all business and personal document that has even the slightest bit of personal information on it.

3. The trash fact

Trash is public property! Yep, once your trash reaches the road, anyone has the right to go through it without your interference. If that doesn’t make you paranoid about protecting your secrets, what will?

4. The fact about the environment

Document shredding is good for the environment many professional paper shredding services recycle the paper rather than dumping it in landfills. A whole 90% of identity thefts occur because of information gained from print sources rather than digital sources. That is why paper shredding is so important.
