Whether it’s a cozy cubicle or a bijou home office, chances are you don’t have a great deal of work space and what you have needs to work extra hard. At Office Monster, we believe in streamlining like a boss to get the very best out of even the smallest space. Here’s how we do it.
1. What’s your prime real estate?
Your desk and your top desk drawers are the single most important space in your work life. This is where you reach out and lay hands on those frequently used office supplies, so clear the clutter and give them pride of place. If you don’t know why you have it, then you don’t need it. You know the old saying ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’? That’s your new mantra. Live by it.
2. ‘In’ box and bin box
Everybody needs an ‘in’ box to hold those really important, must do tasks. Which means you actually have to do them. Prioritize by asking yourself which one needs actioning first? And when it’s done, drop it in the bin box aka the recycling bin. Decide on the direction of your workflow – work comes in from the left, gets done in the middle, and exits on the right works for mo 3. Go vertical
3. More Storage
Need more room for essential office supplies, books and files? Go vertical. Smart shelving floor to ceiling in a home office will keep everything within reach, but even a pin board or a bookshelf can give you valuable extra storage for those office must-haves.
4. Organize by need, not type
we know it looks great when you have everything all neatly arranged by type, but to make your office space work for you then you need to keep what you need close at hand. We know it’s hard, but you’ll thank us for it in the end.
5. Reboot daily
When you shut down your computer at the end of the day, that’s the time you need to take 5-10 minutes to reboot your desk ready for the morning. Tidy those papers, clear away the coffee cups, stow the stapler and gather up your pens. Believe us, you’ll be glad you did in the morning.
