It’s official! Summer is upon us! Isn’t it such a shame though, that we spend most of these delightful sunny days, staring out the window at the sun rather than actually being in the sun? Well this blog has a few tips to help you to make the most of the sun despite being at work.

Literally get up and walk out

In England it’s no secret that the weather is miserable, most of the time. Therefore if you can, when it’s glorious weather, physically pick your desk up and your chair, get an extension wire for your laptop, and sit outside, catch those rays and get yourself some well deserved vitamin D.

A business cannot thrive without a break room. Fact. But in the summer, don’t you find the break room becomes more of a greenhouse rather than a room? Therefore, if your office has the outdoor space to do so wouldn’t it be wise to invest in some picnic benches, where employees can take a break or even have an impromptu meeting outside, in the fresh air.

Slip a shrimp on the barbie

Showing your appreciate your team is usually it’s only done at the of the year. But when the sun is out, the birds are singing, why not show your appreciation bang smack in the middle of the year and surprise them with a barbie?

Make Your Schedule More Summer-Friendly

If possible, start coming in an hour earlier so you can actually head out at a reasonable hour and enjoy the late night sunshine. (Because it wasn’t so long ago that it was dark at 3.30 PM.) Or, put the bulk of your work or meetings on your schedule earlier in the week to allow you to duck out on Friday afternoons without missing anything important.

Socialize with Colleagues

Summer is a social time of the year. People are traveling more, festivals and concerts are almost every weekend, the beaches and campsites are full and friends are visiting. The days are long and full of opportunities for fun. Make the office a social place, too. Eat lunch outside with your co workers, reveal your hilarious weekend stories or spend an hour at the end of the day winding down with a drink on an outdoor patio. You’ll be surprised how much more stimulating your work environment becomes when you’re sharing the fun with the people you see most each day.

Switch to cold treats

Don’t forget the little things. Keep yourself caffeinated but instead of drinking hot coffee, why not make yourself a simple Nescafe to cool yourself down and wake yourself up. Having treats such as ice cream, lollies and ice cold water in the fridge everyday will also keep your colleagues motivated and keep their productivity levels high. It won’t hurt to have a little music on in the background either. Find some upbeat music that still allows for concentration and you’ll feel more energized no matter how hot it is. So why not use a music-streaming platform like Spotify to find your next favorite artist.

Change up the commute

Sweaty public transport is the order of the day in several cities: change up your commute, choose cycle, walk or even scooter if possible. Take a breath of fresh air!
